Defence Service Homes Insurance (“DSH Insurance” “we” “us” “our”) understands and appreciates that individuals (“you” “your”) may be concerned about the privacy, confidentiality and security of their personal information which is collected by DSH Insurance. Website Privacy Policy – Collection of data

We collect or obtain data relating to you in a variety of ways, as described below. Such data may include personal data, i.e. information that alone or in combination with other information identifies you as an individual, for example: when you fill out request forms available on our Site or via our online quoting tool.

Data that you provide

When you request information, fill out claim requirements or give us feedback via this Site, we may ask you for data, like your name, postal address, telephone number, and email address so we can respond or follow up. We may also ask you to provide other data such as your geographical location, industry, and preferred contact method.

Data that we access when you use this site 

When you access DSH Insurance website, there is a record of your visit made in the web server logs of the following information for statistical purposes:

  • The date and time of your visit to the site;
  • The pages you accessed and documents downloaded;
  • Your domain or top level domain name (for example .gov, .au etc.);
  • The type of browser you are using.

For web analytics purposes, we use Google Analytics to track website usage and capture information to help improve the efficiency and usability of DSH Insurance website. We do not provide any of this information to third parties.

The types of data collected through Google Analytics include:

  • Your computer’s IP address (collected and stored in a de-identified format);
  • Computer screen size;
  • Computer type, operating system and browser information;
  • Geographic location (country only);
  • Referring domain and out link, if applicable;
  • Search terms and pages visited;
  • Date and time when you accessed the website pages.

Information Collected

Information collected is stored and managed through DSH Insurance’s database (MAVIS). We do not collect any further details (apart from those mentioned above) from policyholders through the site. 
Please note, unlike other insurance companies, DSH Insurance currently does not use/insert ‘Cookies’ to gather information. In future we may require to use web based ‘Cookies’ for easy user navigation and site performance purposes, and if this occurs we will amend the policy accordingly.

a)    Electronic (Web) forms 
DSH Insurance uses electronic (auto generated) online forms through Drupal content management system on our website. These Forms help you to get in touch with us, provide feedback or lodge your claim online. All our forms comply with Australian Government Web Guide Requirements. Forms submitted are stored in our Drupal system including the form data and the IP address of the submitter. Information is then securely transferred to our database for the relevant team to action.


b)    Third Party/partner websites
This Privacy Statement does not address or is responsible for, the privacy practices of any third parties, including those that operate websites to which this Site links. The inclusion of a link on this Site does not imply that we endorse the practices of the linked website though we have systems in place to identify and do regular checks for authenticity purposes.  

  • Online Quoting tool: 
    DSH Insurance works with uBind (partner website) on our automated insurance quoting tool available on our website. uBind collects all personal information to complete a quote for insurance and provides us with reporting.  They base the data on the information collated such as completed quotes uncompleted quotes etc. 

    By answering yes to the disclaimer, you consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information from the application operated by uBind on behalf of DSH Insurance. 

    By providing your contact details and clicking on the Next button, you agree and consent to the collection and use of your contact details by DSH Insurance to contact you about your quote, including an uncompleted quote. Tool/site is hosted by uBind (ABN 40 618 263 684).

    Home Building Cost Calculator available on our website helps you calculate adequacy of your sum insured and analyses auto filled data and your inputs against construction industry data collated by CoreLogic to generate an estimated rebuild cost of your property.
