All veterans who have served in the Australian Defence Force (ADF), even for one day, are entitled to a complimentary Veteran Health Check funded by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA). This essential health assessment, conducted by your general practitioner (GP), enhances your understanding of your overall health and well-being. The Veteran Health Check is a great opportunity for proactive health management, early identification of concerns, and building a solid relationship with your GP.
Veterans can choose from two types of assessments:
- Annual Health Check: Eligible veterans who transitioned from the ADF on or after July 1, 2019, can receive an annual health check for up to five years post-transition.
- One-Time Health Check: Veterans who transitioned out of the ADF before June 30, 2019, can access a one-time comprehensive health check.
When visiting your GP, remember to ask about your Veteran Health Check.
